About Temple History

The Sammakka Saralamma Jathara at Medaram is a historic tribal festival dedicated to the revered goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma. According to local tradition, Sammakka was discovered as a divine child in the forest by the Koya tribal people and later became their revered goddess. She bravely fought to protect her people during the battle against the Kakatiya forces and became a symbol of courage and sacrifice. Since then, the Koya community has commemorated her sacrifice through the Medaram Jathara, celebrated once every two years. Devotees from across the country visit Medaram to offer prayers, jaggery (Bangaram), and other offerings to Sammakka and Saralamma.
